Being me, and that this prompt has a personal meaning to it, I am actually throwing away any chance of winning said giveaway as I want to adapt the prompt and plagiarize like crazy to make my point.
Background: Many of you know my son has leukemia. He is almost done with treatment and is doing extremely well, all things considered. He was asked to create a picture with some words for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Kick Off Celebration for Light the Night. My entry for this week is his picture and words because the song, You are my Sunshine, was always his song, I just adapted it to Samshine. Sam wanted to draw a picture of the sunshine, copied from a picture frame I have:
Here is
I had no idea how much this song would mean to me when I sang it to Sam as a tiny baby. I now truly sing with all my heart - "Please don't take my Samshine away!"

What a beautiful child. So full of sunshine!~ He is in my prayers!~Ames

ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, weird how things work sometimes. I'm glad he is doing well and hope that it keeps going that way. My boyfriend is going through treatment for A.L.L. himself and is now in the maintenance period. He is considered to be in remission and I thank God for that.

When we post, we never really know just who will show up to read and comment. Sometimes it is fun, and sometimes it is fate. This is fate. Please know that all of us who regularly contribute to SC have Sam in our thoughts and in our prayers.

Dear Gems,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful boy Sammy is. I'm getting weepy reading this post. I'm glad to hear that he is doing better. But it must have been, and still is, a scarey time for you as his mother.
My Elisabet was born with a slight heart defect and had open-heart surgery at one week old. She was lucky. It was a minor thing compared to many of the other children at this special hospital. I thought about all of those parents of children with greater problems than ours. And still that was no comfort when I had just had a C-section, lost a lot of blood, and had to pump milk to feed her through a tub, because she was too weak to nurse. As a parent you do what you can for your child.
I sang for Elisabet. Not "You are my Sunshine", but a lot of Swedish lullabies. But "You are my Sunshine" would have been a good one to sing.
What a heartfelt post. Sammy is in my heart and in my prayers.
Best wishes & hugs,
Anna

My son is a cancer survivor. He had it when he was five and went through treatment. He's now 20 and cancer free. Miracles happen every day and yours is on its way.
ReplyDeleteI still remember vividly how scary it was to watch him go through Chemo and get sick. Nothing could keep my little trooper down. He is such a bundle of energy. It was his innocence and desire only to play that kept me sane. Their sun-shiny attitude is amazing, isn't it?
Thanks for sharing Sammy's drawings! I'm sending out prayers for Samshine and your family.
That is so sweet! You son is quite the artist.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your kind words and support. This blog is for me to escape a little from all the cancer stuff (just HAD to tell you about Samshine though). A special thank you for those who shared their own personal battles with ill-health. Brenda....I am so glad to hear your son is doing so well...it gives me so much home.
ReplyDeleteAnna, how you stayed sane as your child went through such surgery so young amazes me and reminds me to stay strong, just like you.
Please keep praying, it is working!

Oh Gems.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. I didn't know of your sons battle, but he sounds like a fighter...and so does his Momma.
Thanks for sharing your Samshine with us. He sounds like a ray of brightness!
Hugs and prayers.
