It is Saturday again, which means it is time for Jenny Matlock's prompt to drive us insane creating a shot piece following the strict rules:
This weeks prompt is:
The ATM machine began dispensing twenties...
You can use this prompt and UP TO 100 additional words to write a story of your choosing in any style of writing you prefer. Just keep your story PG and try to visit as many of the other links as you can!
So here goes:
The newly married couple were trying to figure out how to live together in harmony. She, having come from England, had little to furnish their new apartment with. While he had all sorts of junk from college which he clung to like a baby to his binky!
"We are going to need real furniture," she cautiously suggested.
"Well, my stuff is fine for now."
"Perhaps we can look anyway...we might find something that matches...um...and smells better."
"I get it," he replied as the ATM machine began dispensing twenties...his hard earned twenties. "You'd rather catch that grenade than use my old couch huh?"
" I love you, sweetie," she gently replied, hoping Pottery Barn would still be open.

Cool the way you worked last week's centus into it! Now, on to Pottery Barn!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this...so clever and shopping at Pottery Barn to boot. Nice job !!!
ReplyDeleteMy hard earned 20's... I know exactly how he felt. But man o man, Pottery Barn is certainly the place to lay down a few. Loved your "slice of life" take on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteOh yes if it's as important as a binky to a baby it must be a keeper....so very clever just love your take....and she has to be really so wise being from England don't cha know! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great little slice of true life!
ReplyDeleteThis story made me smile. Especially the line "um... and smells better" Some things just need to stay in dorm rooms LOL. Nice take on the prompt. Kat
ReplyDeleteI just love the reference to last week's prompt. And the story resonates, anyway.
ReplyDelete=)
PS. I'm late with my Centus this week, but here it is:

Thanks for the great feedback, everyone. I couldn't resist throwing in the grenade...it just fell into place. As you have probably noticed, my posts are geared around this couple...I have yet to get to know them myself...should be an interesting journey.
ReplyDeleteloved the reference to last week's centus!
ReplyDeleteLoved this take...a very smart, subtle English lady...loved the reference to the Grenade and the smelling couch....

ReplyDeletenew place, new furniture its the law right? haha
ReplyDeleteCleverly done! I totally liked last weeks prompt in this writing...
ReplyDeleteAnd my ATM cash limit wouldn't give me much of a Pottery Barn shopping trip. Sad, but true!
