Saturday Centus -Driving, Learning, Loving

This week's prompt comes from Mr. Jenny.  Jenny herself was held up and asked for assistance.  Mr. Jenny is brutal!  Come back Jenny, all is forgiven :)  The prompt comes from Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus  and I have 100 words to create something meaningful with the prompt Exit 181, 1/2 mile ahead...
So here goes nothing...

"Are you sure we are going the right way?" she persisted.
"Yes, for the last time, I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING!"
"But this should have been a two hour trip and we've been on the road at least four hours." she responded with exasperation.
There was silence, that kind of silence that newly weds should not be experiencing, but it was there with such force, it was deafening.  Then they saw the sign, Exit 181, 1/2 mile ahead...
"Um, sorry honey" came the peevish apology.
"Just trust me, I know what I'm doing....I love you....I knew what I was doing when I married you....backseat driver and all!"
"I love you too..."
The couple quietly drove on, his and on hers, finally reaching their destination....and learning more about each other by the minute.

  2. Me too...but having laid into the opposite sex on my last post, I thought I'd be kinder this time. Believe me, it took all I had not to have it end the other way:)

  5. Excellent job ! Sometimes silences after stinging words have been said give people time to think and then say " I'm sorry " and start fresh with no negative baggage or ammo for the next time...

  11. This was perfectly navigated. Driving puts couples to the test. Great story, with a feel-good ending. They got there.

  14. I think I just lost my comment to cyberspace, so forgive me if this is a repetition. You post was so visual and concrete that I could feel the exasperation and see it on their faces. And I can really relate. Once, my late husband argued with the GPS, told it to go to hell and turned right instead of left. The next advice from the machine? "As soon as possible, make a legal U-turn!"

I like the way you write, and I love a happy ending.

    Namaste..........cj

  15. Brilliant. Love the dialogue and the deafening silence we've all experienced. This was really well written.
