I'm Back

Well, it has been a long time hasn't it?  Life has been rather full of late.  Not that I'm complaining, but blogging has not been a high priority.  The trouble is, I have missed it.  I have wanted to log into Saturday Centus to see what everyone is writing about.  I have wanted to try to put my own daft thoughts down on paper with the excitement of reading peoples' comments and kind opinions.  I miss it all.

I am not sure how I want this blog to go now.  I need to find some kind of direction.  I NEED to find some kind of focus or else all hell will break loose with ramblings about anything and zero quality whatsoever.

So...as I am lacking in brainpower right now...and hubby is nagging me to come and watch a movie....I will let this post end with the great news that I am back in the driver's seat...I just need a destination and a map on how to get there :)

Happiness

H is for Happiness.  I have a lot to be happy about.  A great family, a good job, wonderful friends, and generally a good life.  I went to a concert last night and had a blast, I watched my son win his little League game this morning, and I have blogging time while Daddy takes my other son swimming.
I enjoy spending time with family, time with friends and time alone.  Sometimes Happiness can be found when you least expect it.  You might expect a having a child with a severe illness would mean nothing but heartache…but it is not always so.  I am so happy when I see my son running around (okay, limping in his own special way) as he plays with his friends.  There is joy in seeing this and appreciating how far he has come despite his illness.
I am happy when my eldest son, now a big third grader, comes up and gives me a big hug and kiss without me begging for it.  Oh, he does this at home all the time, but in public, not at all….so when he does, I am ecstatic!
I am happy when my husband does something completely unexpected, “just because”.  Knowing my love for all things Pearl Jam, he surprised me the other day when our local Boarders was having a closing sale.  He saw a book on the band and called me to see if I had read it…I had, but I felt so warm and happy inside, just because he had thought of me.
Life doesn’t have to be full of expensive ‘things’ to make a person happy.  My life is as complicated as they come right now, and we don’t have a ton of money to blow on ‘having fun’. I do have my majorly down days, times when I despair. But I am also happy with the things I do have.  That makes me feel blessed, not everyone appreciates or takes the time to notice these things.

Saturday Centus - Easter Bunny

Jenny Matlock has provided us with a pictorial prompt for our Easter offering this week.  Totally befitting Easter, we have this charming vision with which to compose a storylet of no more than 100 words.  Wish me luck people, I'm gonna need it!

As they settled into their first year of marriage, the couple were preparing for Easter.  Having no kids of their own, Emma decided to volunteer with Jack for the local Youth Club Easter Parade.  She would help on the stalls and he could dress as the Easter Bunny.

The morning of the parade, the costume arrived.  "Finally," shouted Jack, who was thinking he would be the most boring bunny ever with hand-made ears and a bobtail - just because the real costume was late.

"Let me see it when it's on," Emma shouted up the stairs....silence.  "Jack, let me see...oh!"
Stunned...Jack stood there with a pout on him and an attitude that clearly said, "No way in h#ll, darling, no way in h#ll!"

Invitations

We have so many invitations in our lives.  As children we are invited to parities.  We invite our friends to our own parties.  But the guest list is usually parent-controlled or dictated by a class list.
As we get older, I’m talking the grand old age of about ten, we begin to question why we should invite everyone ‘just because’ and become more selective in our choices of people we share momentous occasions with.
Though adolescence, invitations become a status symbol….who is or is not invited becomes a crucial element in social standing and ‘coolness’.  Adults poo-poo this as childish; part of the angst-ridden path a teenager takes on the path of self-discovery and self-invention.
Then, as an adult we justify our own decisions to invite a person or group to certain functions. We consider, with great care, the event, the mix of people, the space, and the benefit each guest will bestow on us, the hosts.  This, of course is far more mature than the adolescent ‘clique’ invitations that can hurt and crush individuals beyond recognition!
But there are also the most amazing types of invitations….the ones that often do not appear on paper or an Evite.  These invitations are more personal, more connected to the individuals involved.  They can be invitations between a man and a woman to begin a discussion that may lead somewhere…or maybe not….but the invitation is implied in body language and signals.
Precious invitations between a parent and a child to have a snuggle or read a book together….bliss!
Invitations to ‘come to bed early, darling’ can be exciting and out of the ordinary.
We are complex creatures driven by primal instincts.  Therefore the invitations from the heart and soul are the ones that really count.  The invitation to a friends Bar Mitzvah, the wedding of distant cousins, or a children’s birthday party (you know, when you are relying on your child to point out the birthday boy as you have no clue who they are), are just part of the society we have created.
Go along and have fun!  Enjoy being the one who gets the invitation and hope your BFF doesn’t find out she wasn’t invited!
But most of all, look out for the invitations we receive everyday from our fellow human beings; invitations to engage in a conversation, help a friend, an invitation to notice a moment that is precious to someone else.  Invitations that need no RSVP!

A-Z Challenge

Despite my total lack of time, I am part of the A-Z Challenge on my Wordpress blog (yep, it's started up again as people kept subscribing and commenting despite my link to this blog).  As today's post is about Pearl Jam, well Eddie Vedder really, I thought I'd add it here too....just 'coz!
D is for DEADLINE….you know, the one I missed yesterday.  I do have a good excuse but I won’t bore you with it now.
E is for EDDIE VEDDER.  He is the singer from Pearl Jam for anyone younger than 30 (although many young’uns do know him so I don’t mean any offense).  I am very Excited because I’m going to see him perform in his solo show.  I have never seen him live, not even with pearl Jam!
Many might remember Eddie as the crazy guy with the angry snarl and baritone growl in the early ’90′s.  Pearl Jam recently celebrated their 20th year together…they have lasted, remain relevant,  and pack out arenas around the world.  Eddie Vedder sold out his solo shows within minutes of tickets going on sale and, believe it or not, he performs playing a ukelele!!!  Bet ya didn’t expect that!
His solo songs are beautiful, still send out important messages to the listener, and are currently new additions to my iPod.
Eddie as you may remember him:
But now…
Enjoy!  Long Nights from the Into the Wild soundtrack:

Saturday Centus -Driving, Learning, Loving

This week's prompt comes from Mr. Jenny.  Jenny herself was held up and asked for assistance.  Mr. Jenny is brutal!  Come back Jenny, all is forgiven :)  The prompt comes from Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus  and I have 100 words to create something meaningful with the prompt Exit 181, 1/2 mile ahead...
So here goes nothing...

"Are you sure we are going the right way?" she persisted.
"Yes, for the last time, I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING!"
"But this should have been a two hour trip and we've been on the road at least four hours." she responded with exasperation.
There was silence, that kind of silence that newly weds should not be experiencing, but it was there with such force, it was deafening.  Then they saw the sign, Exit 181, 1/2 mile ahead...
"Um, sorry honey" came the peevish apology.
"Just trust me, I know what I'm doing....I love you....I knew what I was doing when I married you....backseat driver and all!"
"I love you too..."
The couple quietly drove on, his and on hers, finally reaching their destination....and learning more about each other by the minute.
